The Moberly Community Garden Committee held a Ribbon Cutting for the inaugural Moberly Grow-A-Garden Program on Friday, May 12, 2023, at 3:00 p.m. at their plot at 126 South 6th Street in Moberly.
This new community garden plot was donated by Central Christian Church and is under the direction of MU Extension of Randolph County.
The goal of the garden was to set up each gardener for success in learning how to plant, grow and harvest their own fresh produce. Coalition members involved in this project are Penny Vanduzer, Rosalee Mason, Lisa Fennel, Brittney Ames, Rachael Grime, Peg Dann, Cathy Harris, Atina Roberts, Deann Turner, Kara Bunten, Chelsea Reed and Valerie Priest.
Plots were being sold for only $5, which covered the land preparation, seeds, plants, tomato cages, tools, water and educational programming, but due to high demand and finding an unforeseen koi pond on the lot all the locations have been taken for the season. MU Extension of Randolph County can put interested participants on a wait list for future expansion by calling Candace Rodman at 660-269-9656.
“Having an organization that is always working toward educational health and nutrition is so important in our community. It is evident how much this garden was needed by how quickly the plots were sold. We look forward to seeing continued success with this program,” said Moberly Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director, Megan Schmitt.
This ribbon cutting was held in partnership with the Moberly Area Chamber of Commerce. To schedule a ribbon cutting for your business go to moberlychamber.com or call 660-263-6070.
