Over 80 people attended the Moberly Area Community College’s Ribbon Cutting & Open House on Tuesday, April 11, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. at 101 College Avenue in Moberly to celebrate Greyhound Hall, the expanded student housing development.
Executive Director of the Moberly Area Chamber of Commerce Megan Schmitt introduced Dr. Lashley, current President of MACC who spoke about this project.
The construction of Greyhound Hall was approved by the MACC Board of Trustees in December of 2022 and provides additional housing for the new baseball and softball students as well as additional rooms for other students that would like to live on campus. A total of 116 beds are available.
A large crowd of facility, Alumni, supports and community partners attended this event to tour the facility for the first time.
Attendees had the opportunity to tour this new dormitory, East of MACC Activity Center, which was the former campus bookstore. Besides living quarters, it provides an open common room, laundry room and outdoor study areas.
Dr. Lashley and Board of Trustees Member, Denise Caldarello cut the ribbon.
“It is very exciting to see additional MACC students living on campus in Moberly. We can easily see their presence and impact that they have on the community. We look forward to connecting those students to the Moberly area,” said Moberly Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director, Megan Schmitt.
The MACC Alumni Association has assisted with fundraising the 3 million dollars needed for this project. They have titled this campaign “Bring Home the Hounds”. A variety of donors are displayed on the wall inside Greyhound Hall that have already contributed to make this project possible. The Moberly Area Community College Foundation, Inc. welcomes other donors that are interested in supporting this project.
